Cuzco Ruins

On Sunday morning, following breakfast, my friendly host walked with me to a nearby colectivo terminal where I would find transportation to the top-most of the four ruins that lie above Cuzco. I paid a dollar extra to get one that was leaving immediately and took a more direct route. There are four ruins and one buys the ticket to all of them at the top level ticket booth and then takes the rest of the day, however fast or slow you want, to walk back down to Cuzco. When walking, it's best to have at least two people and walk early in the day. Robbers have been known to relieve solo tourists of their valuables. I chanced it anyway, but then a Dutch lady asked to walk with me and that worked out just fine. In the daytime there is enough traffic in any case to minimize risk.

Here you may notice something that Kuelap was missing. It's main vulnerability, quickly recognized by the attacking Incas - there is a well here. Note: magnificent stone work.

Are we going home soon, mommy?

The second ruin. Heading downhill it was hard to miss, especially with a bunch of toursts standing on it.

This ruin is very nice, compact, and well restored and maintained. More than I expected.

BTW, in one photo you can see the entrance to the first ruin and ticket booth (and clean toilets). If you do this, the colectivo will drop you off right there where those buses are.

Continuing on to number three, I noticed these three guys outlined against the horizon. Very cool.
